Σε πτώχευση η Metro-Goldwyn Mayer
Στην υπαγωγή της στο άρθρο 11 του αμερικανικού πτωχευτικού κώδικα προχωρά η άλλοτε κραταιά βιομηχανία του Hollywood, MGM, σύμφωνα με δημοσίευμα της εφημερίδας Wall Street Journal.Η απόφαση εγκρίθηκε με συντριπτική πλειοψηφία από το Δ.Σ της εταιρίας, μετά από το ναυάγιο στην προσπάθεια συγχώνευσής της MGΜ με την Lions Gate, που προωθούσαν οι κύριοι πιστωτές της εταιρία, όπως η JP Morgan, Anchorage Advisors και Highland Capital Management, από κοινού με τον δισεκατομμυριούχο επενδυτή Carl Icahn.
Το χρέος της εταιρίας, που έγινε διάσημη για τις παραγωγές «Ο Μάγος του Οζ», «Όσα παίρνει ο άνεμος», καθώς και για τις σειρές του «James Bond», ξεπερνά τα 4 δισεκατομμύρια ευρώ.
Υπό την νέα διεύθυνση η MGM, προβλέπεται να κινηματογραφεί μόλις τέσσερεις με έξη ταινίες τον χρόνο με μπάτζετ που δεν θα ξεπερνά τα 50 εκατομμύρια δολάρια.
Μιλώντας στην εφημερίδα Los Angeles Times, ο πρώην σύμβουλος της MGM, Clark Hallren δήλωσε πως βασικό πρόβλημα της εταιρίας είναι πως τα τελευταία χρόνια διοικήθηκε από «οικονομικούς παίχτες» που ενδιαφέρονταν να κερδίσουν άμεσα, κάτι που δεν είναι ποτέ εφικτό στον χώρο της βιομηχανίας του θεάματος, όπου, κατά τη δήλωσή του, τα κέρδη είναι πάντα μακροπρόθεσμα.
John Carpenter to Direct Darkchylde

Empire Slowly Revealing Our First Look at the New CGI Tintin
We're now about 14 months away from the release of Peter Jackson & Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin. Although we're still a long ways away, I've been surprised that we haven't seen a photo from the animated movie, especially because they finished shooting back in March of last year. That said, Tintin isn't a popular character here in the US, but is throughout the rest of the world, so it only makes sense that Sony and Paramount (co-distributing) chose Empire to debut the very first look at the CGI character. However, we're not fully there yet, as they just kicked off a nifty little visual countdown for the reveal on their website. Seen above are four small portions of bigger images as revealed on their site: empireonline.com/reveal/. The four little teaser images are just tidbits from what looks like a bigger photo of the CGI Tintin, voiced and modeled by Jamie Bell. As far as we can tell, from left to right: Tintin's yellow overcoat, Snowy's hair (his dog), his brown pants, and his blue sweater that he normally wears (using this photo for reference). Empire is playing coy and not mentioning anything anywhere, so we don't know how or when the rest of the photos will be revealed, but we're pretty damn certain this is will be the first photo from The Adventures of Tintin.

Panasonic's Exclusive Avatar 3D Blu-ray Offer Detailed
First details have surfaced regarding the terms for the Panasonic promotion offering a 3D Blu-ray version of James Cameron's Avatar. As previously reported (see Blu-ray.com, September 3), this 3D BD will be exclusively available starting December 1, as part of a bonus Panasonic 3D Ultimate Pack, to new buyers of any Panasonic Full HD 3D TV. Other buyers of Panasonic 3D TVs also qualify to receive the Avatar 3D Blu-ray.The 3D Ultimate Pack consists of one Avatar Blu-ray 3D Disc and two pairs of Panasonic 3D eyeglasses.
A similar promotion will also be offered in France, according to HD-Motion.
The disc will also be available to customers who purchased a Panasonic 3D TV prior to December 1, through the Viera 3D TV Loyalty Program. Consumers should mail a copy of the qualifying TV receipt to Panasonic. The disc will then be mailed directly to the consumer. The mail-in address and disc request form will be available on the Panasonic website starting December 1.
In February, Avatar director James Cameron had said to the Wall Street Journal that a 3D Blu-ray of the movie would come out in November (see Blu-ray.com, February 18). That was promptly denied by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment with a note that said verbatim: "3D is in the conceptual stage and Avatar will not be out on 3D Blu-ray in November" (see Blu-ray.com, February 19).
Fourth Installment of 'Mission Impossible' Franchise Gets Title
Though we've known for awhile now that the newest forthcoming installment in the Mission Impossible franchise starring Tom Cruise wouldn't simply be called Mission Impossible 4, no clues as to the official title had been given. Luckily, a press conference in Dubai (via Yahoo!) finally revealed the new title for the anticipated sequel. Cruise revealed the title as Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Unfortunately, that was pretty much the extent of the revelations with no hints at a story. However, it was revealed that cast & crew would be shooting at Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest tower standing at 2,717 feet. Caprica Cancelled
"Caprica", the television series prequel to the hit reboot of "Battlestar Galactica", has been cancelled.Third Batman Movie is Officially Titled 'The Dark Knight Rises
The third Batman movie will be officially titled The Dark Knight Rises as his follow-up and epic conclusion to the fantastically unforgettable The Dark Knight from 2008. Nolan confirmed a few other things as well: that it won't be in 3D, that he will shoot with high def and IMAX cameras (again) instead, and that the villain is not Riddler nor will Harvey Dent be back at all. So there you have it, now we know the title and a bit more about where he's going with this. Read on! "We'll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we'll be introducing some new ones," Nolan told him. Not many more details were revealed in today's Hero Complex update, but I did see Geoff Boucher mention something interesting over on his Facebook account that links to this article: "Hugo Strange and Catwoman now jump to the top of the list." So Nolan ruled out Riddler, Joker and Harvey Dent, and after talking with Nolan, Boucher thinks it might be Hugo Strange (is this Tom Hardy's role?) and/or Catwoman who will show up as the big villains in this one. Only time will tell, right? Either way, now we know that it's The Dark Knight Rises that will be hitting theaters on July 20th 2012. Bring it on! Everyone else excited?
James Cameron Will Officially Be Directing Avatar 2 and 3 Next

Κάμερον, με την Fox.Ο σκηνοθέτης Τζέιμς Κάμερον υπέγραψε συμφωνία για τη δημιουργία δύο σίκουελ του Άβαταρ, το οποίο κέρδισε 2,8 δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια παγκοσμίως, ανακοίνωσε η Twentieth Century Fox. Ο σκηνοθέτης θα ξεκινήσει την παραγωγή του πρώτου σίκουελ το επόμενο έτος, το οποίο σχεδιάζει να είναι έτοιμο τον Δεκέμβριο του 2014. Το δεύτερο σίκουελ θα κυκλοφορήσει ένα έτος αργότερα "Η δεύτερη και η τρίτη ταινία οι οποίες θα είναι αυτοτελείς ιστορίες θα συνεχίσουν να εξερευνούν τα θέματα και τους χαρακτήρες που άγγιξαν τις καρδιές του κοινού σε όλους τους πολιτισμούς του κόσμου", δήλωσε ο Κάμερον. "Ανυπομονώ να επιστρέψω στην Πανδώρα, τον κόσμο όπου η φαντασία μας μπορεί να ξεφύγει", πρόσθεσε ο σκηνοθέτης.
An official press release from Fox and Lightstorm (via Deadline) has announced/confirmed that James Cameron has agreed to make Avatar 2 and 3 as his next films. He was apparently considering directing that Cleopatra movie with Angelina Jolie at Sony, but Deadline says "Fox made a 'huge' donation to his environmental green fund, and in return he committed to making the Avatar sequel… That also caused him to withdraw from Sony Pictures' Cleopatra." Fox is targeting December 2014 and 2015 release dates for the two back-to-back sequels, but hasn't set anything in stone. Ready to go back?
Here's James Cameron's rather beefy official statement that touches on improving the story in these sequels:

J.J. Abrams' 'Super 8' is Officially Set to Hit Theaters Next June
Paramount Pictures has officially set a release date for J.J. Abrams' upcoming sci-fi film Super 8, being produced by Steven Spielberg, on June 10th, 2011 next summer. That is the same day Universal's Fast Five and the romantic comedy Something Borrowed will hit theaters, but I guarantee you that Super 8 will win the crowd. Abrams' is currently shooting the top secret alien sci-fi flick in West Virginia and already released an early teaser trailer back in May to setup/tease the concept.
