Alien Prequel Going 3-D and a New Trilogy on the Horizon ?

ShadowLocked (via SlashFilm) caught up with art director Roger Christian and their conversation turned to the Ridley Scott directed Alien prequel, in which Christian revealed: "Ridley's doing the next Alien in 3D." So acid spit and chest splitting aliens will be flying right at our faces in the next new installment. But even if you hate 3-D, try to have an open mind, because Christian believes that Ridley might be able to deliver another trilogy, even though Christian isn't officially attached to work on this yet.

ShadowLocked asked Christian if he thought Ridley could actually bring back the Alien franchise from the mediocre turn it took towards the tail-end (not to mention the awful AVP movies) and his answer hints at the possibility, albeit a somewhat unlikely and fanciful one, that there might be a new trilogy in the works:

"Ridley told me some of his ideas when we were here in Toronto. He has a very clear understanding of where this should go. They kind of stopped dead one of the greatest horror franchises there's ever been, and it had legs to go on. So I'm hoping he'll revive another three. The world certainly wants it, and the fans want it - everybody."

This isn't just an art director hoping and wanting more guaranteed work, because apparently Christian isn't yet on-board for the prequel, but he did chat with Ridley, and it seems like a reunion for both is on the way:

"I actually met [with] Ridley here at the film festival. We had a chat to catch up, and he was going on about how much I'd 'got it' on the first one. I guess that's because of 'Star Wars,' where I had a trained crew with me… and we learnt [sic] how to do it. It's not a technique that's easy to do - it's something I'd learnt. So [Scott] kept saying how I was the one responsible, really."
