Shyamalan Secretly Working on New Sci-Fi 'One Thousand A.E.'

Heat Vision is reporting that Shyamalan has been in town this week putting together his next project, titled One Thousand A.E., which he will apparently take on as his "next directorial effort." It's being developed at Overbrook Ent., Will Smith's company, but according to THR this has nothing to do with that other secret Shyamalan project from the summer with Bruce Willis and Bradley Cooper attached. This one apparently has a script written by The Book of Eli writer Gary Whitta.

Universal Adapting Cate Tiernan's Witch Fantasy Series 'Sweep'

Variety reports Universal has picked up rights to Cate Tiernan's young adult fantasy series Sweep. Robert Nelson Jacobs will script the adaptation of the story (which spans 15 books) following a 16-year-old girl who discovers she's a blood witch, descended from an ancient and powerful line. Ultimately, she must decide whether to use her powers for good or evil. While every young adult series will undoubtedly be linked back to Twilight, the first book starts in an eerily familiar way for those who know the teen vampire novels.

In the first installment, Book of Shadows, the 16 year-old Morgan finds herself a person of interest to a new senior student named Cal. Of course the love interest reveals that he and his mother are Wiccans (witches), and Morgan, who seems unusually sensitive to natural energies and adept at "magick," becomes the focus of his attention. Definitely sounds familiar. In a weird twist, Vince Vaughn is producing the adaptation through his Wild West Picture Show Productions banner in conjunction with Alloy Entertainment (the company behind Sex Drive). Combine this development with Vaughn's option of Wicked Lovely, and it seems like the company has a weak spot for female driven fantasy fare. Any Sweep fans out there excited?

Χώρα Προέλευσης

Με φόρα από το σινεμά Βενετίας όπου προβλήθηκε, η Χώρα Προέλευσης του 32χρονου Σύλλα Τζουμέρκα μιλά για μια ιστορία ενδοοικογενειακής υιοθεσίας, η οποία οδηγεί τρεις γενιές μιας οικογένειας σε μια σύγκρουση μέχρις εσχάτων. Στην ταινία ξεχωρίζουν οι ερμηνείες των Αμαλία Μουτούση και Θάνου Σαμαρά.

Το Μέλι

Το τρίτο μέρος της τριλογίας του Τούρκου σκηνοθέτη Σεμίχ Καπλάνογλου. Ο Γιουσούφ ζει με τους γονείς του σε μια απομονωμένη ορεινή περιοχή. Ο πατέρας του πρέπει να ταξιδέψει σε ένα μακρινό δάσος για να μεταφέρει τις κυψέλες του σε άλλη ορεινή περιοχή. Όταν ο πατέρας αργεί να επιστρέψει, ο μικρός Γιουσούφ αποφασίζει να τον αναζητήσει. Η ταινία θα κάνει πρεμιέρα στο Πανόραμα Ευρωπαϊκού Κινηματογράφου και από τις 22 Οκτωβρίου θα αρχίσει να προβάλλεται στον κινηματογράφο Άστυ.

Χωρίς Σύνορα

Ο σκηνοθέτης Νίκος Γκαϊτατζής παρακολουθεί τον Θανάση, έναν πλανόδιο πωλητή που έχει υπό την προστασία του την 5χρονη Μελίσα. Όταν η μητέρα της επιστρέφει για να την πάρει στην Αμερική ο κόσμος του Θανάση ανατρέπεται. Στο φιλμ πρωταγωνιστούν πολύ γνωστοί ηθοποιοί, ανάμεσά τους ο Γιώργος Βογιατζής, ο Γιώργος Χωραφάς, η Δωροθέα Μερκούρη, ο Σπύρος Παπαδόπουλος.

Heartless

Τη ζωή του Τζέιμι (Τζιμ Στάρτζες) σκιάζει ένα πορφυρό σημάδι, σε σχήμα καρδιάς που έχει στο πρόσωπό του. Στους δρόμους του Λονδίνου όπου ζει θα ανακαλύψει σύντομα ότι κατοικούν δαίμονες. Όταν οι άνθρωποι που αγαπά απειληθούν, τότε ο Τζέιμι θα μεταμορφωθεί σε εκδικητή. Μια χαμηλού μπάτζετ βρετανική ταινία τρόμου διά χειρός Φίλιπ Ρίντλεϊ, η οποία δεν ενθουσίασε τους κριτικούς.

Η πόλη της Σύλβια

Η ταινία προβάλλεται μέσα στο πλαίσιο μιας προσπάθειας από την Ταινιοθήκη να φτάσουν στο κοινό μικρά ευρωπαϊκά διαμάντια. Στην ταινία του Χοσέ Λουίς Γκερίν κεντρικό θέμα είναι ο έρωτας. Ένας άνδρας (Ξαβιέ Λαφίτ) αναζητά την Σύλβια (Πιλάρ Λοπέζ ντε Αγιάλα) στους δρόμους του Στρασβούργου.

Στις 21 Οκτωβρίου ξεκινά και το 23ο Πανόραμα Ευρωπαϊκού Κινηματογράφου που περιλαμβάνει περισσότερες από 100 ταινίες και πλήθος αφιερωμάτων.

Βασισμένο στο μυθιστόρημα του Τσακ Χόγκαν «Prince Of Thieves», το «The Town» ακολουθεί την ιστορία τεσσάρων κακοποιών που ζουν στη Βοστόνη και ειδικεύονται στις ληστείες τραπεζών.

Ενας από αυτούς ερωτεύεται την τραπεζική υπάλληλο που είχε κρατήσει για λίγο όμηρο κατά τη διάρκεια ενός σχεδιασμένου εγκλήματος και την ακολουθεί σε ένα απεγνωσμένο παιχνίδι πόθου και αδιέξοδων ελπίδων. Ο Μπεν Αφλεκ βάζει την υπογραφή του σε σκηνοθεσία και σενάριο και στήνει ένα υπέροχο δραματικό θρίλερ για τη βία, τη φιλία, την προδοσία, (ξανα)βάζοντας παράλληλα πλώρη για τα επόμενα Οσκαρ.

Το 4ο σίκουελ του πολύ πετυχημένου φραντσάιζ RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE βασίζεται και πάλι στην πάρα πολύ δημοφιλή σειρά βιντεοπαιχνιδιού, ενώ θα παρουσιαστεί αυτή τη φορά σε 3-D. Σε έναν κόσμο που έχει προσβληθεί από έναν ιό, που μετατρέπει τα θύματα σε ζόμπι, η ALICE (Milla Jovovich), συνεχίζει το ταξίδι της για να βρεί επιζώντες και να τους οδηγήσει σε ασφαλές μέρος. Η θανάσιμη μάχη με την εταιρεία Umbrella φτάνει σε νέα ύψη, όταν η Alice λαμβάνει απροσδόκητη βοήθεια από έναν παλιό της φίλο. Ο νέος επικεφαλής υπόσχεται ένα ασφαλές καταφύγιο από τα ζόμπι, στο Λος Άντζελες, αλλά μόλις φθάνουν, η πόλη πλημμυρίζει από χιλιάδες ζόμπι - και η Alice και οι σύντροφοί της βρίσκονται θανάσιμα παγιδευμένοι.

James Cameron Updates on Avatar Sequels

James Cameron spoke to press today at a special event to promote the November 16th release of the Avatar extended edition Blu-ray set. We'll have full coverage of the event soon but, in the meantime, here's what Cameron had to say in regard to future adventures in the world Avatar, his rumored Cleopatra project and the upcoming television series based on his 1994 film, True Lies.

"Our plan right now is to do two and three as a single large production and release them a year apart," Cameron said, "In order to do that, we have to refine our technical processes beyond the end of where we were finishing 'Avatar' one a year ago. We need to future-proof ourselves out five or six years to the end of the third film."

Though Cameron's name has recently been brought up in connection with Cleopatra (with Angelina Jolie tentatively attached to star), Cameron announced that it was currently undetermined whether or not he'd come aboard that specific project.

"I haven't made any decisions about that," were Cameron's exact words, "but here's a decision: I'm not going to work on a film between ['Avatar'] two and three. It's really a question of whether or not I do one between now and when we start two. We're evaluating how much of our techwork and how much of our facility work it's going to take. That's not decided as of right now. I'd love to just start on 'Avatar 2' right now, but I don't know if that's possible or if it makes sense to wait."

In the meantime, Cameron is continuing work on his Avatar novel, which he hopes will serve as a bible for other creators to offer their own unique takes on the world of Pandora.

"The novel's a big project," said Cameron, "It's not a novelization... I asked myself, 'If this had been based on a book, what would that book have been?' It ends coterminously with the end of the movie. I'm not going to give you one frame beyond that. But how about the 30 years before Jake came to Pandora? The discovery of the planet? Grace's arrival there? All the back story and the history of Earth. All the context and then everything lateral to what you see in the movie. Whether it's things that are happening off-camera or things that are happening inside the characters' heads."

Cameron also reiterated his thoughts on Sigourney Weaver's character returning for Avatar sequels, despite her apparent death in the first film.

"Who said she died?" Cameron teased with a big grin, "Nobody dies in a science fiction movie. Whether Grace lives or dies depends more on Sigourney's agent than anything.

Though he's listed as a producer, one project that doesn't have Cameron's full attention is the upcoming "True Lies" series, planned for development at ABC.

"I'm not really doing that," Cameron said, "That was initiated by others. Friends of mine who wanted to do that. I said, 'Yes, go with God. Do 'True Lies.' But do I have to show up to do anything?' They said, 'Absolutely not.'"

Though Cameron has been involved with a number of scripts for potential True Lies sequels over the years, he added that he's not aware whether any of the ideas from those drafts will be incorporated into the show.

Mark Wahlberg Offered the Lead Role in Remake of 'The Crow'

Straight out of left field comes a wholly interesting development regarding the remake, or rather all-new adaptation, of James O'Barr's comic book The Crow. Last time we updated you on the forthcoming reboot of the comic book adaptation, producer Edward Pressman said an offer was out to a major actor and things were moving ahead "very aggressively" with an eye towards shooting this year. With the end of the year on the horizon, it's unlikely the film will take off before 2011, but Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Mark Wahlberg has been offered the lead role of Eric Draven, a man brutally murdered who comes back to life as an undead avenger.
