Vin Diesel Confirmed for Third Riddick

Vin Diesel is confirmed to star in and produce a third installment installment in the "Chronicles of Riddick" franchise, reports Variety.

Universal Pictures will handle domestic distribution and Lionsgate is currently selling international rights.

David Twohy, who wrote and directed both Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick, will direct again from a screenplay he wrote.

According to the trade, the third film will hew closer in tone to the cult hit Pitch Black and will focus on the character of Riddick as opposed to the universe he inhabits.

Diesel is first expected to star in Universal's Fast Five, the fifth installment in the "Fast and Furious" franchise.

EuropaCorp Making 3D Sci-Fi Action Film Section 8

Variety reports that EuropaCorp is in pre-production on its next big English-language project, the 3D sci-fi action film Section 8.

Ireland's Stephen St. Leger and James Mather are attached to direct from a screenplay by St. Leger, Mather and EuropaCorp owner Luc Besson, who will also produce.

Section 8 takes place in a prison orbiting 50 miles above the earth. The prison houses 500 of the world's most dangerous prisoners, who are kept asleep by sophisticated techniques until they suddenly awaken.

The film, which starts shooting late spring/early summer, is budgeted at more than $30 million.

EuropaCorp is also focusing on Brick Mansion, the U.S. English-language remake of Pierre Morel's action-thriller District 13.

Billl Wisher Has Written Treatments for Terminator 5 and 6

There's been tons of activity surrounding the Terminator franchise as of late. The rights were up for grabs as of November and studios like Lionsgate and Sony have been foaming at the mouth to snatch them up. So when the surprise victory came from a $29.5 million bid from Santa Barbara-based hedge fund Pacificor, the debtholder which  pushed Halcyon into bankruptcy, something wasn't quite right. But out of this deal came the offer to let Sony and Lionsgate produce and distribute the next Terminator film. But who would will it? How about original franchise writer Bill Wisher who has treatments for a fifth and sixth movie? Read on!

Emmerich is Going Motion Capture for the Foundation Trilogy

Although I'd love to see that Independence Day sequel, it looks like director Roland Emmerich will be moving on to direct Isaac Asimov's Foundation trilogy. It was first announced last January that Emmerich would be bringing this beloved sci-fi series to the big screen and although we've written about it since then, we haven't learned much else about his plans until now. Emmerich tells MTV that "the Avatar technology applies to Foundation… It has to be done all CG because I would not know how to shoot this thing in real." So will it be motion capture kind of like Avatar (or probably A Christmas Carol)? The answer is: Yes.

Θρίλερ που προκαλεί... κρίση πανικού

Σάλο έχει ξεσηκώσει στην Ιταλία ένα αμερικανικό θρίλερ που σπέρνει τρόμο και προκαλεί ακόμη και κρίσεις πανικού σε νεαρούς θεατές. 

Η αμερικανική ταινία «Paranormal Activity» (Υπερφυσική Δραστηριότητα) είναι έργο (ανεξάρτητη παραγωγή) του ισραηλινής καταγωγής σκηνοθέτη Ορεν Πέλι. Γυρισμένη σαν ντοκιμαντέρ με έναν προϋπολογισμό μόλις 15.000 δολαρίων, θυμίζει το γνωστό θρίλερ «Blair Witch Project». Το ζευγάρι των πρωταγωνιστών που βιώνουν παραφυσικά φαινόμενα μέσα στο σπίτι τους τριγυρνάν με μια κάμερα στο χέρι καταγράφοντας τις τροματικές εμπειρίες τους. Τόσο τρομακτικές που πανικοβάλλουν πολλούς ανήλικους θεατές. Ενδεικτικό είναι ότι το κέντρο άμεσης δράσης της ιταλικής αστυνομίας έχει δεχτεί δεκάδες κλήσεις παιδιών που θεωρούν ότι κινδυνεύουν. Ενώσεις καταναλωτών και γονέων αντιδρούν εντόνως ζητώντας τον χαρακτηρισμό της ταινίας ως ακατάλληλης για ανηλίκους.

Επισημαίνουν άλλωστε ότι στις ΗΠΑ το φιλμ απαγορεύεται στους κάτω των 17 που δεν συνοδεύονται από έναν ενήλικο, στη Γερμανία στους κάτω των 16 και στη Βρετανία στους κάτω των 15. Στο ίδιο πνεύμα παρενέβη και η Αλεσάντρα Μουσολίνι, πρόεδρος της κοινοβουλευτικής Επιτροπής για τα Παιδιά, ζητώντας άμεσα μέτρα εναντίον «αυτής της μορφής βίας». Από την πλευρά του, ο Ιταλός υπουργός Αμυνας Ιγκνάτσιο Λα Ρούσα κατήγγειλε το διαφημιστικό της ταινίας που προβάλλεται συνεχώς από ορισμένα κανάλια και υποστηρίζει ότι το «Paranormal Activity» «τρομοκρατεί χιλιάδες παιδιά».

Η ένωση καταναλωτών Codacons άφησε ανοιχτό το ενδεχόμενο δικαστικών προσφυγών για διεκδίκηση αποζημιώσεων για ψυχική οδύνη.

Penelope Cruz Joining the Cast of Pirates of the Caribbean 4

Heat Vision is reporting that the beautiful Penelope Cruz is "in negotiations" to join the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth installment in the series being directed by Rob Marshall. We don't know much about who Cruz will be playing, but she's apparently "[Jack] Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways." So she's kind of a villain? And a pirate as well? Oh joy! So is everyone ready to see Penelope Cruz get covered in grime and dirt and become a nasty pirate in Pirates of the Caribbean? She's probably the last person I would've ever cast! Shooting starts this summer in Hawaii.

Sony Confirms New Spider-Man Movie Coming in 3D in 2012

Sony has issued a press release today confirming that the new Spider-Man movie (currently called just Spider-Man again), being directed by Marc Webb, will "swing" into theaters worldwide on July 3rd, 2012 in glorious 3D. The new film, which is still untitled, will begin production later this year directed by Marc Webb from a script by James Vanderbilt. Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios. There aren't any other updates on this reboot besides that release date and 3D confirmation today.
