The Shield Writer to Pen Underworld 4
"The Shield" writer John Hlavin has been hired to pen Underworld 4 for Screen Gems and Lakeshore.
Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films in the vampire-vs.-werewolf saga, is producing with Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg and Richard Wright of Lakeshore.
The fourth installment does not yet have a director attached and neither Kate Beckinsale or Rhona Mitra have signed to return.
Hlavin said the plot is under wraps, "but I can tell you it's not a prequel." He added, "It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements."

Idris Elba to Play Heimdall in Thor
Idris Elba has joined the cast of Marvel Studios' Thor, reports Heat Vision.Elba will play Heimdall, the guardian of Asgard, who stands on the BiFrost Bridge ready to defend the city from intruders.
He joins a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Samuel L. Jackson, Stellan Skarsgard, Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson and Tadanobu Asano.
To be directed by Kenneth Branagh, the comic book adaptation will be released by Paramount Pictures on May 20, 2011. Shooting will begin mid-January in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
War of Gods Becomes Dawn of War
Production Weekly reports that director Tarsem Singh's War of Gods is now titled Dawn of War and is scheduled to start shooting in Montreal in March.
Henry Cavill ("The Tudors") is expected to play Greek warrior Theseus, who battles against long-imprisoned Titans who are hoping to use the demons to restore their power.
The project was written by Charley and Vlas Parlapanides.
ABC Announces Lost Premiere!
ABC announced today that the sixth and final season of "Lost" will kick-off with a special all-night event on Tuesday, February 2. A recap special will kick off the night from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET, followed by the much anticipated two-hour premiere from 9:00-11:00 p.m.
The series will then air in its regular time period Tuesday nights from 9:00-10:00 p.m., ET beginning the following week, on February 9.
"Lost" stars Naveen Andrews as Sayid, Nestor Carbonell as Richard Alpert, Emilie de Ravin as Claire, Michael Emerson as Ben, Jeff Fahey as Frank Lapidus, Matthew Fox as Jack, Jorge Garcia as Hurley, Josh Holloway as Sawyer, Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, Yunjin Kim as Sun, Ken Leung as Miles, Evangeline Lilly as Kate, Terry OQuinn as Locke and Zuleikha Robinson as Ilana.
Brad Pitt's Plan B Developing Dark Void Video Game Movie
Variety announces that Pitt's company Plan B and Reliance Big Pictures have purchased the rights to the video game Dark Void from Capcom. They will be developing a feature film based on the game as a potential franchise and starring vehicle for Pitt. The game isn't even out - it'll hit shelves in January for all systems (Xbox, PS3, PC). “As a game, Dark Void was developed with a wide-screen mentality – a world full of adventure presented in cinematic scope and scale,” Capcom senior VP Germaine Gioia said of the game. Dark Void centers on a a cargo pilot named Will who, after crashing in the Bermuda Triangle, ends up in a parallel universe where a band of humans must fight an alien threat they had long been thought extinct. Will and the other humans are outmanned but have a number of weapons and powers to help them beat back the alien incursion. You can see a screenshot from the game above and it does look pretty damn cool. Pitt and Co. haven't gone so far as to setup distribution plans yet, so we're not sure how far out this is. They probably need to get a script written and director attached first before they put this into pre-production.

Zack Snyder's Guardians of Ga'hoole Movie Rounds Up a Cast
It's been quite awhile since we heard about Zack Snyder's forthcoming adaptation of the children's book series Guardians of Ga'hoole. After the project was announced in early 2008, there was some minor casting news way back at the beginning of this year, but development has been pretty mute since then. Now THR's Heat Vision adds a whole bunch of new cast members who will lend their voice to the 3D animated feature including Sam Neill (Jurassic Park), Geoffrey Rush (Pirates of the Caribbean), Hugo Weaving (The Matrix Trilogy) and David Wenham (300) as well as a handful of even more actors.Also voicing characters will be Aussie actors Emily Barclay, Abbie Cornish, Emilie de Ravin, and Jay Laga'aia, as well as English actors Miriam Margolyes, Helen Mirren and Jim Sturgess. This rather impressive voice cast will bring characters to life in the story of Soren (Sturgess), a young owl enthralled by his father's epic stories of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole, a mythic band of winged warriors who had fought a great battle to save all of owlkind from the evil Pure Ones. After Soren is kidnapped by owls of St. Aggie’s, a place where owlets are brainwashed into becoming soldiers, he and his new friends escape to the island of Ga’Hoole, to assist its noble, wise owls who fight the army being created by the wicked rulers of St. Aggie’s.
The first film will condense the first three books in the series, so if any are to follow, it's safe to assume we won't see 11 more films on the horizon. Of course if it turns out to be a success, it just might get milked for all its worth.
